GRAPHIC PHOTOS

This page contains graphic before & after photos of Rescued Shelties all across the United States. Some photos belong to Mid Florida Sheltie Rescue and some photos were graciously offered to us by our ASSA Sheltie Rescue affiliates.
This page was designed to help you understand exactly what National Sheltie Rescue encounters on a daily basis. Please remember, although the dog you adopt may not have endured the trauma represented below, your adoption fee is necessary to help pay for dogs like these, who haven’t been as fortunate.Thank you to all our fellow Rescuers who offered these wonderful photos for example.

Laddie – Before & After

ladbefaftLaddie came to us through the Emergency Vet Clinic in Casselberry, FL.  He was found as a stray, with a broken back leg that had never received medical attention.  His leg required a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) and about 6 months of physical therapy.  Due to the physical abuse Laddie suffered at the hands of a human male, it took a full year before he was able to even tolerate being in the same room with his foster dad.

Harley – Before & After

harleybeforeandafterSweet Harley was dumped off at a shopping center and turned in to us by the angels who picked him up.  He was so emaciated that it took months to bring him back to a healthy weight.   Harley was adopted by Helen and has since gone to the Bridge.  We love you Harley!

Cooper – Before & After

cooperCooper was a Craigslist Hoarder dog that came through the Evergreen State Shetland Sheepdog club for rehab, and never left – he took months (almost a year and a half) to rehab to 95% normal. He weighed 1/2 what he should have, and had sores and bites all over his back from the larger dogs that lived with him.

Rocky – Before & After

rockyRocky was turned in to the Middle Tennessee Sheltie Rescue, 2 weeks after he was hit and dragged by a car. It seems his owner could not afford the treatment needed after his accident and finally requested that the Vet put him to sleep. Fortunately, the Vet stepped in and contacted Sheltie Rescue.

Megan – Before & After

meganAnn Acuff with the Middle Tennesse Sheltie Rescue was called to Animal Control to rescue a little 8-lb. Sheltie who was in need of medical attention. She was horrified to find that the area over this little dog’s back, which appeared to be matted, was actually hiding chemical burns extending over a large portion of her back. It took a full month before Megan would even look Ann in the eye. Today, she is a happy & healthy little girl, living in luxury with her adoptive family.

Dare – Before & After

dareDare is an example of the horrors of puppy mills. He was given up by the mill because they could not sell him missing his rear leg. His front leg has now been amputated as well. Fortunately, he is in the care of the Colorado Sheltie Rescue.

Sammy – Before & After

sammyrescueSammy was born in a puppy mill: cross-eyed, vision imparied and missing part of his tail. Due to his lack of veterinary care and nutritious food, his immune system was weak and he developed a severe case of demodectic mange. He was rescued (along with his sister) by the Second Chance Sheltie Rescue in St. Louis. Sammy was adopted by his foster parents, and is now affectionately known as “Cyclone Sammy.”

Max – Before & After

maxMax came to the Jacksonville Sheltie Rescue after being turned into Animal Control. Max had such severe food allergies, practically anything he ate caused him to itch so severely that he would rip his own fur out. It took many months of rehabilitation, finding food that worked and helping to retrain his behavior.

Tommy – Before & After

tommyThe Southern Nevada Sheltie Rescue was contacted by the daughter of Tommy’s family. The father had passed away and the mother was in an alzhimer’s facility. Tommy’s family had obviously been unable to care for him for quite a while, so the daughter shaved his coat because it was so matted. He was approx. 10 lbs. overweight as well. As you can see by his “after” photo, Tommy looks about 1/2 the age he did when he first came in to Rescue.

Leah – Before & After

leahbeforeaftLeah came to the Indiana Sheltie Rescue in October of 2007 after being dumped in a drop-box at Animal Control. She was diagnosed with demodectic mange, but was successfully treated and adopted to a loving home just 3 months later. Take a look at how she holds her ears and tail in the before & after photos.

Frankie – Before & After

frankiebeforeaftFrankie was found alongside the road in Bowling Green, OH and was rescued by the Northeast Ohio Sheltie Rescue. He was matted, urine soaked with urine scalds on his skin. He was arthritic and had permanently deformed feet due to overgrown nails, had a softball size fatty lipoma swinging off his chest and a smaller one on his right thigh, was grossly overweight, and his teeth were black. Frankie was adopted by his foster mom and lived a happy 4 years before going to the Bridge.

Hope (Progress Pictures) – Before & After

hopeprogressHope and her sister Faith, came to us after being dumped off anonymously at a drop-box at Animal Control. Both girls were very old, deaf, arthritic, had severe cataracts and were so severely matted that they had to be completely shaved. What was discovered beneath their coats were extremely emaciated dogs filled with severe sores and skin infections. Hope was so weak that she could barely walk. Faith was in Congestive Heart Failure. Both girls lived a happy couple of years with their foster parents until their deaths. Hope died of liver failure & Faith died of cancer.

Amy (Puppy Mill Raid) – Before & After

amy_beforeamy_afterOn Saturday, September 14, 2002, a raid was conducted on Knights Kennel in Morrow County, Ohio. 113 dogs and puppies were rescued from this horrid facility. Amy is one of the ten dogs rescued by Precious Secrets Sheltie Rescue.

Visit PSSR’s website to read about the raid and see other photos of the rescued Shelties.

Zach – Before & After

zach1Zach_in_the_flowersz_flowers_2This picture was simply too precious not to include on this page. Zach came to Ann Acuff with the Middle Tennessee Sheltie Rescue after being attacked by several dogs. As you can see, Zach was extremely hurt and required some intense TLC. He was adopted by a loving home, and as you can see from his “after” photos, is doing beautifully.
